The traffic is heavy, brake lights are glowing red, turn signals are on but no one is allowing the merge, people gestating wildly with their hands, mouths moving in which I am sure is a slew of profanities escaping their lips…Happy Holidays from the Mall.
Stress. Anger. Annoyance.
Once at the Mall…cross at the crosswalk, nope, pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way, walk through the haze of smoke of that one person who refuses to stand away from the door, slow-moving walkers as though no one is behind them, people bumping you with their packages, lines having no start or an end, people talking on their cell phones while being rung up by the cashier, no eye contact, not even a thank you or a Happy Holidays.
Finished at the Mall…walking to the car, oh, please hold that door?, where did I park?, being trailed by a car that waits impatiently for me to load my bags, so kind to barely back up, squeezing out of my spot, reverse, drive, reverse, car quickly flies in to spot, another car flies up on my bumper, buses taking forever, waiting my turn, car behind me blowing its horn.
Leaving the Mall…I feel like my heart is already growing back three sizes the farther and farther I drive away.
Stop rushing and running, relax. It will all get done.
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
